Beginning 7-10 minutes | 1. Review cards with children, especially family members and classroom objects. 2. Sing “Days of the Week” to review those words. | Student cards | |||||||||
Middle 7-10 minutes | 1. Show children your labels for the days of the week. Walk around the room and stick the labels up in random order. Have children stay in place and repeat the names of the days as you point to the labels, until you have all the labels put up. Then ask 1-2 children “Go stand under Monday.” Others can be sent to other labels. Once all children are in place, have the Monday group go to a different “day”, and start moving children quickly and quietly around the room. Give out stickers for those students who can do it quietly! 2. Divide students into two teams. Have a box or a piece of colored paper for each team. Place each box on a designated desk or chair. Using your own copy of the word cards, explain to the children that their task will be to wait in a line for their turn, take a turn identifying one card, and then (if they identify it correctly) putting it into their team’s box. If a card is not correctly identified, put it back in the middle of your stack of word cards. Continue until all word cards are gone, and then count each team’s cards to determine the winner. (You may choose to allow team members to help one another, if needed.) Require students to use the phrasing outlined in the objectives: All students: “There is one banana.” “There are three windows.” Some students: “There is one yellow banana.” “There are three black windows.” A few students: “There is one yellow banana on the table.” “There are three black windows on the house.” 3.
