Body Vocabulary Review

  • Go through PPT slides as a class – show the picture first, and see if students remember the word/can pronounce it correctly
  • Ask the students to give an example (show nose and say its my nose)

Alternative: Learners get into lines and as a warmer get learners marching in time on the spot. As they march shout out in military exercise fashion instructions e.g. Where is your head? Touch your head. Where is your nose? Touch your nose etc.

  • Again as a movement warmer, invite groups of 3 or 4 learners to front of class. Give groups instructions to perform actions ‘like’ e.g.
  • Walk like a chicken. Are you chickens? Eat like a mouse. Are you mice? Laugh like a monkey. Are you monkeys? Sing like a fish. Are you fish? etc.
  • Teacher demonstrates words that learners will hear in instructions in teaching of simple steps of a traditional Kazakh dance e.g. one two three… forward, back… turn around, all together.
  • Learners listen and watch as you instruct a few learners in basic steps [without music]. Repeat the process several times with different groups. Then move to instructing a larger group with music. Change groups.
  • Get some learners to perform/walk through dance saying words in time with steps. Repeat with different groups.
  • Get learners to perform dance with music, incorporating elements from previous lessons e.g. badges and hats/masks made. Learners say words in time with steps.

Assessment – how are you planning to check learners’ learning?

***See in text notes about specific differentiation techniques

In general:

  • Allow for flexible groupings and cooperative learning, depending on the appropriateness to the task
  • Allow for extra time for students needing it, when appropriate
  • Give extra text or visual support to students needing extra English support
  • Create small learning groups for students needing extra support or enrichment with the co-teacher, when appropriate
  • Encourage high-preforming students to lead activities and support others during challenging tasks
  • Provide interesting puzzles, texts etc. to those students who finish early
  • Use open-ended tasks and questions so students may take their learning in their own directions
  • When possible, allow for student choice of task
