Greeting, Objectives & Daily Questions

As students are entering the classroom, greet and ask them to take their places. At this stage, the learning objective can be reviewed orally. Write the following in the middle of the board:

Write the following on the side of the board:

  • I can say what food, color, animal, letter is my favourite
  • I can pronounce the phrase My favourite is…

-(Ask the daily questions)

- How are you today?

-What day is it today?

-What is the weather like today?

-(ask some questions connected with food) Do you like banana/salad/meat/milk?

The teacher can then ask if the students understand the lesson objectives. Tell students that you hope they can do all the lesson objectives by the end of the lesson

Quick revision of the previous material

  • Go through the PPT remind learners food vocabulary, ask whether it is hot or cold, if they like it or not.
  • Give an example of short answers on the board. Ex: Do you like pizza? Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.

Practice Nice and Nasty

  • Say learners that they are now going to speak about their favouite things.
  • Show slide 18, practice the phrases What’s your favourite?-My favourite
  • Going through the PPT practice colours, numbers, animals, alphabet. Drill in chorus.

My favourite things book

Say learners we are going to do a book about what My favourite things are. Pay learners’ attention to the board.

  • Hang Teacher’s favourite things book on the board.
  • There is a photo and 5 big A4 colorful pictures of Teacher’s favourite things like, i.e.:
  • 1. My favourite Italian food is pizza
  • 2. My favourite color is Red
  • 3. My favourite animal is Monkey
  • 4. My favourite number is “7” – you may connect this with Kazakh culture and say that this number is special for Kazakh people, because from the history we have 7 Kazyna (sacred things/ 7 grandfathers in each family, that we should know).
  • 5. My favourite letter is “A”
  • Pass out paddles and ask learmers to write and show Teacher’s favourites. Have them write on paddles and show.

Ex:What is your favourite letter, number, animal? (learners draw and name it.)

Dynamic break: Ask learners to come to the middle of the class and move.

My favourite things book – organization

  • Say that now we are going to make a book of things you like.
  • Pay learners attention to a big book on the board
  • Explain success criteria (Did I.. overwrite all the words correctly, draw beautiful pictures./)
  • Pass out A4 carton paper to each kid and A4 colorful papers to make pockets
  • Pass out overwriting papers to cut and put in each pocket.

***Differentiation by support – those who need extra support in writing things work with teacher’s assistance.

  • Ask students to reflect on if they feel they have achieved the learning goals & what they liked/didn’t like about the lesson
